Repuglicans Want More Abortions!

Sage Republican Advice

Again, the Armando at the Kos.

Crazy Phelps

The nutjub who picketed Matthew Shephard's funeral (and dozens of funerals of people who have died of AIDS) has released a statement to the press praising the Tsunami. Now, that's amazing grace. Via Raw Story.

Mission Accomplished

Kos has more evidence of how we're doing. Incredibly the architects of this failed policy are the only ones who haven't lost their jobs. How can we wake up the rest of the country?

More Iraqi Election news

Things are going so well that the names of the candidates can not be released for security reasons. Juan Cole has the unbelievable scoop.

Silver Lake

Ok, just got back from a lovely short evening (for me, anyway) at our local watering hole, Akbar. Good time, great folks, lovely atmosphere. Andrew was there -- straight (well, not really) from Scotland, Steve, Barbara and Tom and Carl (my betrothed). All good fun. It's about 5 minutes by car, but I (and the rest of the socal) wish it was closer to home.

So, tomorrow night, New Year's Eve -- the debate is on. Should we go to MJs (closer, newer, fewer seats) or Akbar (more seats)? Check back on Saturday for all the deets...or sooner.

By the way, I have just had 2 and one half drinks and must go to bed. At this rate, I'll be drunk off just the fiz on a slo gin fiz in less than 2 years.

How to help the victims of the Tsunami

Go here.

Incidentally, can somebody tell me when the term Tidal Wave became incorrect and was replaced with Tsunami? And, for that matter and related to none of this, when did the Western world start calling Peking Beijing and why? If it was always wrong, why did we call it Peking to being with?

Really. I'm just curious.

AARP Supports Social Security...

Kevin Drum has the story.

Iraqi election

How's it going? You don't want to know...or the Bush admin doesn't want you to know...

Social Security Good News

Rep. Harold Ford seems to be back in the supporting Social Security column. One down, several to go!

Yoga

Made it home tonight in time for yoga at Silver Lake Yoga, where I got the bejeebus stretched out of me. Jessica was the instructor (she also teaches in Pasadena and City Yoga in West Hollywood) and she is very sweet and daunting. Exactly what you need in a yoga instructor. Anyway, I love yoga and I've been going to Silver Lake Yoga for a few years now.

Recently, I did try Silver Lake Bikram Yoga (really in Atwater Village, which annoys me to no end -- Atwater has enough identity issues without chain yoga slapping it around) and found it very hot, but not as creative and challenging. Though, I did manage to sweat out at least twice the amount of fluid in my body each time. I don't know how, but I did.

Anyway, after two visits to Bikram, I thought I'd go back to Silver Lake and I wasn't disappointed. If you haven't tried yoga yet, do. It's great exercise for body and mind. You'll feel better literally overnight. If you are going to keep one resolution next year, let that be the one. You and the world will be a better place. Cheers!

Save Social Security by leaving it alone

I'm with atrios and dailykos and believe that we should stop supporting any democrat who doesn't stand up and forcefully say :

1. Social Security is not in trouble
2. It does not need privatization
3. We shouldn't have to add 2 trillion dollars more in deficit to "save it"

To quote from Bush, "you're either with us or against us." To take a line from Pappy Bush, it's time to draw a line in the sand. Let your congressperson and senator know how you feel.

Acapulco

Ok, so, just got back from the fabulous chain Acapulco, where I had a slightly above average meal of shrimp enchiladas and buttered vegetables. Authentic, it was not. But, after a long hard day spinning the stories(entertainment marketing is my main source of income), one wants something simple, fast, down the block and with a localized coupon (this week, five dollars off any order of more than $20). So, there we were. Nothing too notable except that Carl's bandana cooly wrapped around his head flung open on the sides and I thought to myself, "now that just doesn't look right." Then, I realized he looked like a jester. So, I halted our conversation, he felt a disturbance in the force and then felt his head, immediately fixing his jester cap into a modium of cool. But, the damage was done. I told him about his jester qualities and he complained in his best Shirley MacLaine from POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE, "It opened."

Ok, so, it wasn't exactly a "it just twirled up" moment, but still pretty uproarious as things go...and, sadly, I'll never be able to look at him in a bandana the same way.

Getting Started

Ok, well, I've started a blog several times in the past but always let it slide...usually after just one posting. This time, maybe it'll be different. This time, for the new year, I resolve to share my thoughts with more and more frequently. Frankly, I'm scared enough about the direction the U.S. is going in under Bush and his criminal cronies and as I sit here in L.A. on this abnormally wet and windy evening (more than 5 inches of rain has fallen in the past 24 hours), I am here to try to help move this country back in the right direction and make this world a better place. My heart goes out to the tens of thousands of families affected by the devestating tsunamis in Asia, to the tens of thousands of families (American, Iraqi, British, and on and on) who have lost loved ones to Bush's failed misadventure in Iraq (and for that matter, Pakistan, Afghanistant and maybe coming soon, Iran and Syria) and say tonight and every night: enough. Let's do better. Let's not go to war for profit. Let's not scrimp on early warning systems to save a few bob. Enough. let's do better.
